Head of Martyrs Foundation highlights importance of preserving martyrs’ legacy through storytelling
TEHRAN – The Vice President and Head of the Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Foundation, Seyyed Ahmad Mousavi, visited the family of the “Toughani Martyrs” on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026. The visit, accompanied by Abbasali Rezaei, Director General of the Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Foundation of Greater Tehran, served as an opportunity to inquire about the health and well-being of the martyrs’ mother.

During the meeting with the family of the Sacred Defense martyrs, Mohammad and Saeed Toughani, the Head of the Martyrs Foundation emphasized the high status of martyrs’ families in Iranian society. He called for strengthening unity and empathy among the public, stating, “The banner of Islam is in the hands of the martyrs’ families, and the memory and names of the martyrs of the [Sacred Defense] war must be kept alive through continuous storytelling and narration.”

“If we have remained steadfast and immortal today, it is due to the blessing of the blood of our great martyrs. We are obligated to continue their path,” Mousavi added, reaffirming that the staff and officials of the Martyrs Foundation remain fully committed to serving the families of the martyrs.

Brief Profile of the Toughani Martyrs

Martyr Mohammad Toughani, born in Tehran on September 11, 1968, was an active figure in cultural and jihadist circles after completing his secondary education. In May 1988, he was deployed to the front lines. He was martyred by shrapnel and gunfire from the Iraqi Ba’athist forces while performing a combat mission in the Fakkah region. The 20-year-old combatant was laid to rest in the Kazemabad Martyrs’ Cemetery, alongside his brother, Saeed.

Martyr Saeed Toughani, born in 1969, was a celebrated athlete in traditional Iranian wrestling (Zurkhaneh sports). Renowned as the “Little Champion of the Capital,” he received the wrestling armband (Bazouband-e Pahlevani) at the age of seven, even before the Islamic Revolution. In 1983, at the age of 14, he altered his birth certificate to join the front lines, where he defended the nation while simultaneously promoting traditional sports among the combatants. Saeed Toughani attained the high status of martyrdom on March 13, 1985, in the East of the Tigris region.
